Position Details

At Hydro One, Truck and Coach Technicians serve an apprenticeship to become a certified Truck and Coach Technician. As a Technician apprentice, you are enrolled in and are expected to complete the Ontario Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities Truck and Coach Technician apprenticeship.

As a member of the Hydro One Team, Truck and Coach Technicians service, maintain, diagnose, repair and modify all off-road and on-road transport and work equipment. This includes determining work and parts required, ensuring equipment is in service when needed and the installation of specialized auxiliary devices and associated equipment.

Apprentices also receive additional training to become a Transport and Work Equipment Journeyperson or a Regional Field Mechanic. This includes Hydro One and Utility Industry specific training. Applicants for this work will be required to travel and work throughout the province and may be stationed at any Hydro One facility throughout the province.

Training & Experience

The apprenticeship for a Truck and Coach Technician is 8000 hours, made up of five 1600 hour terms. First term apprentices earn 40% of the journeyperson wage and progress 10% each term. Each term is approximately 10 months in length. The apprenticeship includes 3 in school training sessions of 8-10 weeks each at a community college.

Applicants for these positions must have successfully completed Grade 12 or the equivalent including Grade 12 Mathematics (or equivalent) and Grade 12 English (or equivalent).

Your success is based on a good work ethic, quality skills and a great attitude. Related work experience is an asset.

Location

Truck and Coach Technician Apprentices are required to travel and work throughout the province.

Compensation & Benefits

In addition to enjoying a satisfying career with fellow skilled trade's people, you are paid while learning and enjoy an excellent benefit package. Apprentices start at $29.07/hr which includes benefits, pension and vacation pay, with pay adjustments upon completion of each term.

At Hydro One, fully qualified Truck and Coach Technicians earn a total wage package of approximately $62.94/hr which includes benefits, pension and vacation pay.

Position Demands

This work will appeal to those individuals that enjoy physical work that is primarily outdoors in all types of weather conditions and is performed in shop locations or at field job sites.
